Crown Bedrooms 50 Yrs

OUR HISTORY

Established 1973

Crown Bedrooms has been in business for 50 years. Read our story to follow the journey of our independent family business from its early beginnings right up to the present day.

Our story

In 1973, David Youel started Crown Bedrooms. After an apprenticeship in shopfitting and joinery he got his first contract to fit out the halls of residence in Manchester. His certificates and qualifications are on display in the Denton factory showroom.

As a young man with an eye for detail he soon opened his own showroom and workshop and worked hard to build up a strong reputation for the high standards of his work.

Crown Bedrooms' beginnings

Known in particular for the quality of fitted bedroom furniture he produced, David named his fledgling business Crown Bedrooms - a nod to the workshop’s proximity to Crown Point in Denton.

Over time, the business grew. David took on staff to cater for a growing demand not only from customers in nearby Tameside and Manchester, but from further afield in Cheshire, too.

The workshop has now expanded to encompass a spacious showroom, spread over two floors - the first floor overlooking the workshop where the team continues to make fitted furniture, sliding wardrobes and home office furniture to this day.

Building a business

David introduced his children Joanne and James to the workings of the business at an early age. When they were old enough, they even earned their pocket money helping their dad build chests of drawers in the workshop.

Post university, with their dad, the siblings became co-owners of Crown Bedrooms, and the trio worked as a team - David having passed on his eye for quality and sense of pride in a job well done.

The business continued to grow steadily over the next 15 years and has occupied several workshops all within a few hundred yards of the original one around Crown Point in Denton. The Cheadle Hulme showroom was opened in 2016.

Sadly, David passed away in 2016 but the company operates exactly as before with its passion for customer service and an eye for detail.
